Our History

In 1945, Murray W. Jacklin founded a small steel shop in Lansing, Michigan. What began as a personal hobby quickly grew beyond the capacity of his home garage. In 1976, the operation relocated to Traverse City, Michigan, where Jacklin began leasing a building on Woodmere from Frank and Rich Purvis. As the company continued to grow, it soon outgrew that facility as well.

In 1979, Jacklin Steel Supply Co. constructed its current facility in the Aero Industrial Park, establishing a permanent home for the company’s expanding operations. In 2006, the company transitioned to employee ownership through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Today, every team member has a personal stake in the company’s success and is invested in delivering exceptional quality, responsiveness, and customer service.

Throughout its history, Jacklin Steel Supply Co. has played a role in numerous industrial, manufacturing, commercial, and municipal projects throughout Michigan. These projects showcase the company’s versatility, craftsmanship. For more than 80 years, Jacklin Steel Supply Co. has continued to grow while remaining grounded in the values on which it was founded.
